Our adopted country celebrates its 100th brithday this year!

The year 2018 is a hugely significant one for Latvia, as it marks 100 years since Latvia first gained independence after the Russian Revolution.

Here at Habibi we wanted to join the celebrations which are ongoing throughout the year, and it wasn’t difficult for us to decide how – what better way to celebrate our adopted country than by creating an exclusive range of handmade jewelry in the colours of the Latvian flag!

You may be surprised to learn that the Latvian flag could be one of the world’s oldest, as reference has been found describing it as far back as 1279.

The distinctive carmine red stripes separated by a stripe of white are said to represent the blood of a fallen warrior. One popular legend has it that the warrior’s body was removed from the battle field wrapped in a white sheet. The part of the sheet upon which the body lay remained white, whilst the rest became covered in his blood.

Whether or not the legend is true, Latvians are proud to fly their flag, especially as they celebrate 100 years since Latvia first became an independent nation.

Here at Habibi we wanted to show solidarity with our adopted country, and so have created a range of handmade glass and silver jewelry in the colours of the Latvian flag.

Each glass bead has been handmade to our specifications by Trudi of Glittering Prize Lampwork Beads (see more of her amazing creations at, and we then designed a range of sterling silver necklaces, pendants, earrings and bracelets featuring these stunning beads.

Our range features red and white striped pendant and earrings, heart-shaped pendants and earrings in the Latvian colours, speckled white rondelle earrings, necklace and bracelet, and more.

We invite you to check out our complete range, and to discover more of the amazing country of Latvia!
